Cabinet storing a defibrillator
Defibrillator cabinet

Make a note where the defibrillators are in the village and how to access them.

Mareham le Fen Parish Council maintains a defibrillator in the parish at Tumby Woodside and also at Mareham le Fen Community Centre.

They are in locked cabinets.  They are checked regularly and registered with The Circuit which is the national defibrillator network.

Our defibrillators are on constant trickle charge so they will be ready when needed.

How do I access the locked cabinet when I need it?

Our defibrillators are registered with The Circuit and in an emergency you call '999' and the ambulance service will give you directions to the nearest defibrillator and give you the access code.

Why do I need a code?

You will only be directed to a defibrillator that is operating and available.  If a defibrillator has been used or the battery needs replacing or the pads are removed or out of date the defibrillator will not be available to be used and The Circuit will record that it is not operational and available for use by anyone.  This means you will always be directed to the nearest operational defibrillator.  Our regular checks are based on reminders from The Circuit to carry out the specified checks and to confirm it is still operational.

Can I remove the defibrillator?

In an emergency phone '999' for the Ambulance Service and they will direct you to the nearest operational defibrillator.  Use the code you have been given to access the cabinet and remove the defibrillator and take it to the location of the emergecy where it needs to be used.  When activated the defibrillator talks to you explaining what you must do to operate it on a patient.  After use please give the defibrillator to the Ambulance Service or return to the cabinet so it can be serviced.  It will be removed from The Circuit until it is fully operational again so no-one can use it until then.

Do I need to be trained how to use a defibrillator?

No.  If you need to use one the defibrillator tells you what to do verbally step by step.  However, learning about First Aid is a great skill to have and training can be provided by organisations such as LIVES LIVES Expert Training: Book A First Aider Training Course Today! .
